Syncro Soft, the developer of the industry-leading Oxygen XML suite of tools, is proud to announce the immediate availability of the Oxygen AI Positron 8.2 plugins for all major Oxygen XML suite products, including Oxygen XML Editor, Author, Developer (desktop and Eclipse distributions), Oxygen JSON Editor, Oxygen XML Web Author, and Oxygen Content Fusion.
This release introduces major enhancements focused on extensibility, richer context awareness, and improved transparency across AI-assisted authoring workflows. With support for reusable skills, advanced new reasoning models, and expanded analysis of rich content formats, Oxygen AI Positron 8.2 gives technical communicators and developers more control over how AI is adapted to their workflows and organizational requirements.

What's New in Oxygen AI Positron 8.2
Extensible AI Workflows with Skills
The standout addition in Oxygen AI Positron 8.2 is support for reusable skills, based on the Anthropic Agent Skills. Skills allow organizations and individual users to extend the AI assistant with specialized modules for repetitive workflows, external tool and API integrations, best-practice enforcement, and domain-specific processes.
To help users get started quickly, several built-in skills are included for tasks such as adding review comments, translating XML content while preserving markup and structure, and performing structured persona-based analysis across multiple audience perspectives.
Advanced Reasoning with Claude 4.6 Thinking Models
Version 8.2 adds support for the new Claude Sonnet 4.6 Thinking and Claude Opus 4.6 Thinking models. These adaptive thinking models automatically determine how much reasoning is needed for each request, enabling deeper analysis for complex tasks while remaining responsive for simpler interactions.
To improve transparency, the chat interface now displays a collapsible real-time summary of the model's thinking process when these models are used, helping users better understand how responses are being developed.
Smarter Context Awareness and Transparency
Another important improvement is the AI assistant's smarter awareness of the current working context during ongoing conversations. If users continue a chat after selecting different content or switching files, the AI is now able to better understand the current context and respond accordingly.
Users also benefit from a new context window size indicator that shows the total context window available for the selected model and how much of it is currently being used, making it easier to manage larger and more complex interactions.
Expanded Rich Content and File Analysis
This release significantly expands support for working with rich content and binary resources. Users can now ask the AI to analyze PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or image files without first needing to manually attach them in the chat.
Support was also added for analyzing SVG images during AI actions and chat interactions, complementing existing image handling capabilities and making it easier to work with documentation projects that use this image format.
Enterprise AI Integration Enhancements
For enterprise deployments, version 8.2 adds support for configuring reasoning effort levels for Microsoft Azure connections and for using Claude deployments hosted in Azure AI Foundry through Microsoft Azure AI connections.
Various other improvements were also implemented for AI integrations, model selection, file handling, and review workflows, further strengthening Oxygen AI Positron as a flexible AI platform for professional XML and structured content environments.
