Steven J. DeRose (Ph.D. Brown 1990), is a computational linguist who mainly works with structured document and hypermedia systems. After introducing dynamic programming methods for part-of-speech tagging in linguistics, he co-founded Electronic Book Technologies to build the first SGML-based document delivery system. He has worked on many computer standards including XML, XPath, OSIS, TEI, eBook, and others. He counts it an honor to have worked and co-authored with Michael Sperberg-McQueen on both XML and the TEI.
