This is the home page for Morphis Wireless Abstract XML (WAX), an XML-based language and tool set in development by the maker of the Morphis open source wireless content transcoder. The WAX environment is used to save development time by creating pages and applications that will deliver content to various browsers and devices in a format they can understand and display correctly.

The open source, extensible language combines features of Wireless Markup Language (WML) and HTML. WAX tags may translate to a Graphical User Interface (GUI), for example a popup menu, if the target device supports it. WAX includes Extensible Style Language Transformations (XSLT) stylesheets to convert WAX for Nokia browsers, Phone.Com 3.0 and 4.0 browsers, generic WML browsers, Handheld Device Markup Language (HDML) browsers, HTML browsers, Compact HTML (cHTML) browsers, and NeoPoint devices. Depending on what a device understands, it can translate to HTML, Handheld Device Markup Language (HDML), or WML.

WAX can be extended by the user with additional device or language support, tags and processing filters. The WAXServlet assists with application building tasks, and the SAX Translator, utilizing various filters (including custom filters by the user), provides for the translation of HTML and XML streams.

WAX is distributed under a GNU Public License (GPL).
