This is a combination tutorial on and generator for Rich Site Summary (RSS) news feed applets. The RSS Applet Configurator service (http://www.webreference.com/cgi-bin/xml/rssappletconfig.pl) is a Perl driven on-line form that accepts the address of an RSS channel and interface decisions (such as background color and item mouseover color), then generates Java code for a customized applet for the user's site. The tutorial lists and discusses the Perl code powering the Configurator, and is the first of a series of tutorials on displaying RSS news on your own Web site.
