Banner Markup Language (BannerML) is an XML based language for creating user-friendly descriptions of products advertised in Internet banners. The goal of BannerML is to provide advertisers the opportunity to attach additional information to a banner.

The BannerML tags structure information attached to the banner so that it can be placed directly in different fields of the user's database. The information (e.g., advertiser information, product or service information, related products information) could then be automatically grabbed and stored by applications and made readily available to the end user.

BannerML has potential to elevate the banner ad from a simple visual link to a self-sufficient object that represents the company or product in a user's database. No serious changes to current banner delivery technology are required.
