SpeechObjects Specification V1.0

Member Submission - Note

Date: Nov. 14, 2000
Link: http://www.w3.org/TR/speechobjects
Source Author or Organization: Nuance Communications, Inc.

This Note describes a specification based on Nuance Communications' Java implementation of SpeechObjects, a core set of reusable dialog components that are callable through a dialog markup language, such as VoiceXML, to perform specific dialog tasks, such as obtaining a credit card number or expiration date.

SpeechObjects are part of the W3C's effort to expand access to the Web to allow people to interact with Web sites via spoken commands and listening to prerecorded speech, music and synthetic speech.

SpeechObjects are reusable software components that encapsulate discrete pieces of conversational dialog, and are based on an open architecture that can be deployed on any of the major server and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) platforms.

As part of Nuance's Open Voice Framework initiative, developers can join a source code community at http://www.v-commerce.com/developers_program.html to obtain access to an implementation of the foundation set of SpeechObjects (including source code), participate in extending the core source, and build new classes that implement SpeechObject functionality.
