This is a tutorial introducing web authors to the unique new event model of Netscape 6.

In the Netscape 4.x event model, events propagate downwards from the browser window object to the target object. In the Internet Explorer event model, events bubble upwards from the target object towards the browser window object.

Netscape 6 supports both directions, and the author can specify whether to intercept an event during the dive (capture phase) or the ascent (bubbling phase). Netscape 6 allows the author more than one action per event type, like Internet Explorer 5, but additionally introduces a new event concept, the event listener. When an event occurs, the event listener executes a pre-specified action. Several event listeners may be installed for the same event type, and for the same object.
