This is a download link for a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation introducing the Resource Description Framework (RDF), an XML application for encoding and exchanging metadata. This presentation was originally given at Xdev San Jose in November 2000.

RDF is defined and diagrammed, and the history of the evolution of this method of describing information resources is traced from early hypermedia through the current organization of structured metadata on the World Wide Web.

The basic syntax and structure of RDF statements is explored, and both edge labeled and node labeled directed graphs are illustrated in detail.

The term "Semantic Networks" is well defined and illustrated, and that definition provides the basis for an overview of RDF Schemas.

Also covered are describing things with RDF, typed nodes, RSS (Rich/RDF Site Summary 1.0), and more advanced topics such as extracting RDF from colloquial XML, RDF Graph and using XML Pointer Language (XPointer).
