This Document Type Definition (DTD) describes Microarray Markup Language (MAML), which is part of an effort to deal with the explosive growth in the amount of data produced by gene expression analysis experiments via creation and adoption of standardized programmatic interfaces such as XML.

MAML is an XML-based data format for communicating information about a DNA-array experiment.

The language provides a framework for describing experiments done on all types of DNA-arrays and a format to represent microarray data in a flexible way which allows the representation of both raw and processed microarray data.

MAML is compatible with the definition of the 'minimum information about a microarray experiment' (MIAME) proposed by the Microarray Gene Expression Database Group (MGED Group).
