Date: Nov. 20, 2000

Source Author or Organization: Harold Boley

The network of individuals and groups from industry and academia who comprise the RuleML Initiative are developing this XML-based markup language for rule-based and knowledge-based systems that will permit Web-based rule storage, interchange, retrieval and firing/application.

Expected areas of application include Engineering (diagnosis rules), Commerce (business rules), Law (legal reasoning) and Internet Access authentication (such as the authentication rules used within registration engines proposed by Tim Berners-Lee).
