This document describes the history of and resources related to Standard Music Description Language (SMDL), a Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) representation of music information that is an application of the HyTime Hypermedia/Time-based document structuring facilities. SMDL represents music information, alone or in conjunction with text, graphics, or other information (including multimedia time sequencing) needed for publishing or business purposes.
