Microsoft XML Parser Version 3.0 Release (MSXML3)

Date: Nov. 2, 2000

Source Author or Organization: Microsoft Corporation

This is the release page for Microsoft XML Parser Version 3.0 Release (MSXML 3.0) and the MSXML 3.0 SDK (Software Development Kit). This update to the MSXML 2.5 parser (which shipped with Microsoft Windows 2000) includes bug fixes and performance improvements, implementation of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards for Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) and XML Path Language (XPath), Component Object Model/Microsoft ActiveX Simple API for XML 2.0 (SAX2) implementation (with a number of helper objects that are accessible from C++, Microsoft Visual Basic, and scripting environments), server-safe HTTP access for use in server-side applications, improvements to the Document Object Model (DOM) and Namespace support, and improved conformance with the W3C XML 1.0 and Namespaces 1.0 standards and the Organization for the Advancement of Structural Information Standards (OASIS) XML 1.0 test suite.

MSXML 3.0 installs in side-by-side mode, which means any previously installed version of MXSML is not replaced and is still usable. Internet Explorer and Windows 95, 98, NT, or 2000 will continue to use only the older version of the parser until you use the xmlinst.exe installer tool (downloadable at http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdn-files/027/001/469/Xmlinst.exe) to manually replace the older parser with the newer one.

This release requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1.
