This is the home site of Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI). Dublin Core (DC) is a metadata set designed to promote discovery of electronic resources, named after the first Dublin Core workshop held in Dublin, Ohio. That workshop identified an initial 12 descriptive elements common to most web documents, such as "Title" and "Keyword."

This site promotes the main DCMI activities in pursuit of its goal; developing metadata standards, facilitating the development of metadata sets, and defining frameworks for the interoperability of those sets. In addition to information about the Initiative, it includes links to related specifications in various stages of development, news, publications, projects, educational resources, tools, Working Groups and Workshop Series (gatherings of experts from the library world, the networking and digital library research communities, and a variety of content specialties in a series of invitational workshops).
