Source Author or Organization: Dr. Jonathan Borden, Open Healthcare Group

XChart is an XML-based open source electronic healthcare system designed to combine the ease, speed and portability of paper systems with the efficiencies of computerized records, in a format that is browsable via the web with minimal training. The Open Healthcare Group describes its XChart Project as "a movement to create an electronic medical record that is easier than paper".

XChart uses RDF's (Resource Description Framework) abstract model to allow intelligent agents to operate on the repository in the future. It also uses Java servlets for the repository to reduce particular operating system and hardware dependencies and provide interoperability between a wide range of devices (including desktop machines, laptops, and handheld wireless devices).
