Abstract: "As of the time of this writing [1998/04] the necessary technological foundation exists to create a unified distributed computing model for the Web encompassing both document publishing and distributed software object communication. For lack of a better term, this model is referred to here as "WebComputing." Applications designed for the WebComputing environment exhibit a mix of features from both the Web publishing and the traditional distributed objects paradigms, blended into a unified model. The goal of this model is to extend the current Web application model such that the benefits of distributed object computing systems such as the OMG's CORBA and Microsoft's COM+ can be realized in a Web native fashion. The objective is to have a system which is less complicated than the above mentioned distributed computing systems and which is more powerful than HTML forms and CGI."
