Commerce One developed its XML Schema language because it didn't feel that DTDs were robust enough to meet the demands of electronic commerce. As the name suggests, the goal of Commerce One's SOX (Schema for Object-Oriented XML) is to provide Object-oriented properties to XML documents, such as strong data typing, polymorphism, and DTD reusability.
