Weather Observation Markup Format is an application of XML to describe a particular kind of document: weather observation reports. The reports come in a variety of formats, and it's important the raw data not be modified in any way. OMF is used to mark up raw observation reports with additional description, decoded information, and derived, computed quantities. The additional annotations are easily extractable by clients who need them without affecting applications that do not use the extra information.
