XDBM is a database designed specifically to handle XML data.

The latest version as of 4/28/2000 offers data stored in a pre-parsed format for greater speed, only needed parts of a file loaded into memory for lower memory usage, and faster searching for XML elements. XDBM can also parse and store plain text XML files, and comes with utilities for converting between XDBM file format and plain text and for reading XDBM files in less and emacs. An introductory tutorial has been added to the manual.
