Integrated Resource of Protein Domains and Functional Sites (InterPro) is an XML databank incorporating information from the Protein Families Database (Pfam), Protein Fingerprint Database (PRINTS), PROSITE database of protein families and domains, Protein Domain Database (ProDom), Simple Modular Architecture Research Tool (SMART), Institute for Genome Research protein families database (TIGRFAMs) and SWISS-PROT/TrEMBL protein knowledgebase.

InterPro addresses the growing amount of poorly characterized sequence data, which can lead to fewer hits in conventional searches, by using many recognition tools. InterPro data is managed in a central database, and researchers download two XML files with database and sequence similarity information.

A standalone version of InterPro is available for download to handle bulk jobs locally. InterPro and the Perl-based InterProScan protein signature recognition tool are distributed under a GNU General Public License (GPL).
