The Gorille Java library addresses the lack of direct synchronization between XML and Unicode by providing a tool for checking XML content and labels against lists of allowable Unicode characters.

Gorille currently provides lists for XML 1.0 and the XML 1.1 Working Draft and users may author configuration files to create additional lists. Future plans include use in Markup Object Events (MOE), a Simple Application Programming Interface for XML (SAX) filter interface and "Gorille checking" for Java readers.

The Gorille site provides links to documentation and the download package (gorille01.zip, 68k). Gorille is distributed under a Mozilla Public License (MPL).
