Taxonomic Markup Language (TML) is an XML-based application for the classification of organisms in an ordered system, or taxonomy. The TML Document Type Definition (DTD) describes the structure of and statistical metadata about a biological organism's phylogeny (or evolutionary history).

The TML site provides the DTD, sample files with Extensible Style Language (XSL) style sheets for displaying the sample data and Perl programs for converting between XML and the Phylogenetic Analysis Using Parsimony (PAUP) Nexus format.
