Sports Markup Language is an XML application for the exchange of sports data and statistics that coordinates with NewsML, International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) and News Industry Text Format (NITF) standards.

The standard will facilitate the XML-based exchange of global sports scores, schedules, standings, statistics and news data. The SportsML site provides a developers' page, an online reference for elements and attributes, a graphical blueprint of SportsML, usage examples and a downloadable documentation and Document Type Definitions (DTDs) package (sportsml-documentation.zip, 328k).
