This tutorial targets organizations thinking about moving their business applications towards a Web services model and describes the solutions offered BEA WebLogic platform configurations.

The article examines practical business concerns in the migration to Web services, gives an overview of Web services today and discusses the importance of support for standards such as Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), electronic business Extensible Markup Language (ebXML) and Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI).

For users of BEA WebLogic Server versions prior to 6.1, the tutorial discusses adding Web services capability by using the server in conjunction with the CapeConnect XML business server for Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), which automatically generates SOAP XML on-the-fly.
