The Java Operation Support Systems Service Activation Application Programming Interface (Java OSS Service Activation API) enables Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) developers to use a set of standard, reusable software components to assemble OSS applications much more quickly.

Developers of telecommunications software who are already using Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) may be the most immediate beneficiaries. OSS sits on top of J2EE, and frequently employs EJB, Java Messaging Service (JMS), Java Naming and Directory Interface (JINI) and XML.
