The Platform-Independant Remote Procedure Call Architecture (PI-RPC) an XML-RPC framework under development by the OpenRPC Project.

PI-RPC's goal is to modify and extend XML-RPC's original capabilities while remaining backwards-compatible with the original specification so it can operate within a wide variety of environments and platforms. An OpenRPC mailing list is open for participation.

PI-RPC will separate transport, encoding and interoperability layers. A basic error model supports error reporting, HTTP, and other transport protocols including: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Extended Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (ESMTP), TCP/IP, Jabber and Blocks Extensible Exchange Protocol (BEEP/BXXP).
