This document defines mechanisms for fine control of telephony and speech resources in VoiceXML applications. Pertinent resources include digitized audio, synthesized speech, recognition of spoken input, recording of spoken input, and recognition of Data Tone Multiple Frequency + Dual Tone Multifrequency (DTML) key input.

The Call Control Requirements specify how telephony-savvy voice browsers should place and answer calls, send and receive faxes, and address telephony devices. A call control system will also manage VoiceXML-based human/computer interactions, as when computers handle incoming phone calls from humans.

This specification also covers the required functionality for distributed telephony network support and provides for voice browser control of call legs, audio streams, and robust multi-line/multi-party conferencing.
