Overview

metaPackager™ Solutions, from Hiawatha Island Software Company, ("HiSoftware") is a knowledge management software solution that enables cataloging and archiving of ALL file types: email, PDFs, maps, drawings, scanned documents, and MP3 files. metaPackager release 2.0 is a Pure XML solution with compression, and base64 encoding that facilitates the encapsulation of files in pure XML. The package contains the original file combined with metadata within a standard XML file. metaPackager is the first software solution to use metadata with any data or file type for fielded search and retrieval of information on a LAN/WAN, the Internet or an intranet.

With metaPackager, files exist in their original form and are "encapsulated" in XML, HTML or XHTML. Like a bar code tag, digital objects that are ‘packaged’ retain their context forever-providing inventory control at the object level. Distribution/viewing of packages can be server-based or utilize metaPackager Explorer, distributed free of charge. metaPackager Indexer creates an on-the-fly, custom index of packaged files. Only a standard Internet browser is needed to view the contents of a package. The software supports Digital Signatures for added security.
