A native XML database

X-Hive/DB's core technology stores XML documents in its parsed form. Eliminating translations between your XML document structure and the database schema significantly increases performance and improves ease of programming.

X-Hive/DB currently supports XML 1.0 with Namespaces, DOM Level 2, XPath, XPointer, XLink, XSL-T, XSL-FO, XUpdate, and XQuery, DOM Level 3 Abstract Schemas, DOM L3 Load and Save.

Intelligent linking

X-Hive/DB includes an XLink compliant linking engine. With X-Hive/DB's XLink engine you are able to offer support for bi-directional links, link-bases and link management. In conjunction with the XPointer implementation, X-Hive offers a pure XML based link Processor.

Versioning with branching

Within X-Hive/DB documents can be stored as versionable documents. X-Hive/DB offers linear versioning with support for branching. X-Hive/DB calculates differences between documents and stores the calculated delta efficiently in an XML format. Branching allows you to concurrently maintain different threads of versioned documents. Older versions can be retrieved and are calculated automatically based on the delta documents. X-Hive/DB's versioning implementation offers a way to track differences within documents based on XML standards.

Made to embed

X-Hive/DB is made to be embedded in your application or solution. All functionality within the product is either accessible through the extensive API or a set of command line utilities. This allows you to embed X-Hive/DB within your solution invisible to the end-user.

Next to XML documents X-Hive/DB also stores Binary Large Objects.

J2EE Connector

X-Hive/DB offers a Resource Adapter implementation of the J2EE Connector Architecture Specification. The Resource Adapter allows you to use the transaction management facilities of an EJB Application Server (e.g. JBoss).

Bridges to relational data

X-Hive/DB offers bridges to any relational database and flat files through the SQL loader. The SQL loader interface allows you to take a snapshot of a relational database and automatically retrieve it as an XML document.

WebDAV support

X-Hive/DB supports a fully compliant WebDAV implementation allowing you to handle documents and document collections through remote folders. This enables WebDAV compliant client applications to directly access the database. X-Hive provides the source code of its WebDAV implementation, which allows you to fully customize the WebDAV implementation for deployment in professional and secure environments.

Various index flavors

X-Hive/DB offers Construct Indexes, Content Indexes, Context Conditioned Indexes and Full Text Indexes. Full text indexing is delivered through an integration of the Apache's Lucene Full Text Retrieval engine. A generic framework is available for Full Text Retrieval through other full text index engines as well.

Integration with Apache

Xerces is integrated for SAX based parsing and Xalan and FOP are integrated for transformation and formatting support. X-Hive/DB easily integrates with other formatting engines like XEP, Framemaker etc.

Bridges to XML editors

X-Hive/DB bridges to popular XML editors like SoftQuad's XmetaL®, Altova's XML Spy®, Word Shadow and various web-based editors.

Unicode compliant

X-Hive is Unicode compliant.

Multiple platforms

System requirements

X-Hive/DB has a modest footprint. Its system requirements are : 256 Mb internal Memory and 300 Mb available hard disk space. Sun JDK 1.3 needs to be pre-installed.
