DataDirect Connect

Version: 3.7
Company: MERANT

Overview

DataDirect Connect for XML allows organizations to utilize XML for exchange and integration of data and to extend these capabilities to current standards-based applications. DataDirect Connect for XML provides corporations the ability to retrieve result sets from a relational database (such as Oracle, SQL Server, Informix or DB2) and store the result sets as XML data files including IE5 XML data islands, ADO persisted XML, and XML files with XML schemas. This ability to persist result sets as XML data files means that organizations can read and write XML data files using their existing standards-based applications (ODBC, JDBC, ADO/OLE DB). Not only will these applications be able to read and write XML, but they will also be able to execute ANSI SQL-92 statements against the XML datasource.

Moreover, MERANT DataDirect has incorporated an advanced SQL processing engine into its XML solution, which enhances the characteristics of native XML data stores for today's commercial and custom applications by providing functionality that is generally associated with relational databases. This includes support for full ANSI SQL-92 statements, such as SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY and GROUP BY.

The ability to share and integrate disparate data sources across a wide variety of environments via the Web offers huge potentials in the emerging B2B marketspace. The ability to easily and rapidly capitalize XML without the need for developing new applications provides a way to leverage investments in existing infrastructure while at the same time extending these systems to utilize the latest Web and business technologies.

Typical Applications: ODBC, Java, ADO, OLE DB
