Overview

XMetaL allows anyone who is familiar with word processing to create, edit and contribute valid XML documents and data. XMetaL is both an XML structured text editor and a developer's kit for the creation of end-user interfaces for repository and workflow integrations.

For developers, XMetaL provides: an extensive API to a COM interface, direct access to Windows scripting, a DOM implementation, a GUI forms creator, easy embedding of ActiveX controls, CSS styling for the document editing pane, easy access to XSLT, an integrated preview for transformation results, and a Resource Manager for drag-and-drop editing behaviors.

For end users, XMetaL provides: Tags-On and Tags-Off editing views, easy configuration of DTD-specific behaviors, a tree-form Structure View, format control for screen rendering, context-sensitive element and attribute dialogs, spell-checking, and easy table, special character and image insertion.

Typical Applications: XMetaL is typically integrated with XML content management systems and workflow. It is widely used in publishing, software documentation and manufacturing. Other vertical applications are under development. Several repository integrations exist including Documentum 4i, Software AG Tamino, and Chrystal Astoria.

XMetaL is also the foundation for eBusiness catalog creation applications.
