Overview

Documentum 4i is an enterprise-level document-management platform that can handle any document type but is particularly well-suited to compound documents that have a hierarchical structure. The product features a three-tier architecture: a choice of relational databases for storage; the Documentum server providing the object layer; and a Documentum or Web browser client. The system is not billed as an XML content manager, but it can be configured to work with XML documents.

Authoring: New this year is integration with XML authoring tools from Adobe and ArborText, including handling of document components below the file level. Word and WordPerfect are the typical authoring tools, with components managed down to the file level.
