Karl F. Best

Karl F. Best is the Director of Technical Operations for OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards. Based in the Boston area, OASIS is a nonprofit, international consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of product-independent formats based on public standards.

Mr. Best has been involved with OASIS since its founding as SGML Open in 1993, and was a director and Chief Strategy Officer of the consortium in 1997-98. He was previously employed by Novell, Adobe, and Sun Microsystems, designing and implementing systems for the creation and delivery of electronic documentation using structured information standards. He has been a long-time participant in standards efforts related to XML and SGML, and a speaker at numerous conferences.
