I did a small bit of research on what XHTML 2.0 would look like if all the text currently allowed in attributes (title, alt, etc.) were moved to elements. The results are at: http://dubinko.info/writing/elemental/ My conclusion: this wouldn't be as painful as it first seems, and it would allow something like named character elements to be a core part of the language. .micah
