Why not use two 'less than' (<<) or 'greater than' (>>) signs to show literal < and > symbols instead of disable-output-escaping? These tags normally don't appear in a WELL-FORMED XML document. It's a shame they didn't think of this before while developing the XML-language. It's a rather old manner of showing literal characters.
