So we've got soap, over beep, over ssl, over http, over tcpip? Seems like what we really want is just good old rmi over tcpip. I'll just wait till the "protocol wonks" have it abstracted back out to method calls. Taylor

  BEEP actually cleans things up significantly and is worth taking a closer look at. It doesn't go anywhere near HTTP, and security (TLS) isn't a layer, but an option that you can switch in. SOAP is just the format of the payload you send.

  
  I'm pretty fond of BEEP, but I fear that it's the misfit kid on the block, lacking the designer clothing of its more-promoted rivals.
