Interoperability Summit: Good Intentions, Little Action
Subject: Interoperability: The need to define success?
Date: 2002-07-30 09:06:35
From: Man-Sze Li

Dear Mr Kotok

Thank you for your very interesting and concise report on the above meeting.

I think the conclusions reached are very valuable. From my own experience of being involved in the standardization process since the beginning of UN/EDIFACT, I would suggest two additions:

There needs to be deeper and continuous dialogues and mutual understanding between those engaged in the business side of the industry, and those engaged in the technical side of the industry.

There needs to be more reflections on and discussions of the value propositions of Interoperability in the broadest context, as well as in specific contexts such as individual vertical sectors. Statements on value propositions need to be verifiable, demonstrable, and meaningful to those engaged in either side of the industry.

Regards

Man-Sze Li
