Interesting article, but i feel like it misses the point. or maybe i am.

SOAP is popular because it is a standard that allows us to send objects around over HTTP (i know its supposed to be transport independent, but who cares? we all just want to adapt our HTTP apps to present an object-oriented API). Yes the type info is in the WSDL, and client bindings could be generated from other protocols and transports, but SOAP works and is supported by multiple big vendors and there are toolkits, so why not use it?

the best is the enemy of the good.
