Before we can safely put applications on the internet, we need a framework that provides access control--an alternative to the wizard approach to security. At the same time, we need single login. So what are we stuck with, MS Passport? I've spent the last year developing QARE, an open source XML portal with a decentralized access model and single login. See http://www.jxml.com for more info.
