DocBook 5 would _not_ be fine. One of the nicest additions for DB5 is <info> blocks in a lot of places. As we move into a world with more metadata, we need more places for this metadata to live. One of the recent discussions on DB5 included a discussion on whether or not to allow other namespaces in <info> blocks, for RDF, OWL, etc. This presents a wonderful opportunity and would be unavailable without namespaces.
