Back in the CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) days, many of us used the IDEFs. IDEF0 was for activity modeling. It had four elements: input, control, output and mechanism, (these four remembered as - ICOM) as four lines coming into a box. It proved to be quite robust in capturing activities, although sadly there are not clearly defined generic business process, but hundreds of variations in hundreds of companies, plus all the typically "work-arounds" when the supposed business process is broken.
Have the folk in OMG looked at the IDEFs? |
