 Adobe's InDesign and XML
Subject: InDesign's XML features are not-so-good
Date: 2004-08-24 22:04:03

I found it interesting that the InDesign CS Classroom in a Book, published by Adobe Press, makes no mention of XML. It's not even in the index. However, the InDesign 2 Classroom in a Book has an entire chapter on the XML features.

I think Adobe is backing off on marketing the InDesign XML features because they're really weak. They work for only with very specific workflows that I don't feel are very practical. Adobe has not even addressed fundamental issues such as what to do with overflow text.

I am a diehard InDesign fan and hate to say it, but Adobe is behind QuarkXPress in terms of XML features.
