The Dewey Decimal System is actually trademarked and that trademark is owned by OCLC. You cannot use it without their permission.

That settlement was about trademark infringement. Implementing DDC in one's home library would not -- in my opinion -- be a trademark infringement as it would be solely a private, non-commercial use. But, of course, I'm not a lawyer.
