I went through a similar process last year and decided to go with UDC. The stumbling block for me was that I couldn't easily generate LCC codes for books that weren't classified, like foreign language books and books published long time ago. On the other hand, I can create UDC codes for pretty much anything. UDC is a bit like XML that way, you can use it as a grammar and provide your own vocabulary if you need to, or extend the existing ones.
The downside of UDC is that revisions of the system tend to change the meaning of the codes. See for example what the latest wholesale revision of the religion section (2) did. It is impossible to mix codes from different revisions.
In any case, I am looking forward to seeing how you solved the problem of generating LCC codes!
