 Marking Up Bureaucracy
Subject: Topic Maps usage in Government

From: Robert McKinnon

I was surprised to see no mention of the US government's usage of Topic Maps to organize, connect and access information.

Topic Maps are being used in several current US government projects. Some may be making use of the XML syntax for Topic Maps, XTM.

For more information about one such project in the IRS see:

"The Topic Maps paradigm was chosen as the foundation for this application because of its powerful facilities for organizing information and supporting navigation strategies."
