Article:
A Compact Syntax for W3C XML Schema
Subject: New syntax doesn't hide the underlying complexity
Date: 2003-09-18 16:23:08

I wholeheartedly agree with Anthony.
Perhaps it's little more typable, but I didn't
find it's any more readable than the XML syntax.

And it still leaves the full complexity of
XML Schema intact, and I thought that's
the biggest problem.

  • New syntax doesn't hide the underlying complexity

xml schema's complexity may be a problem for a number of (potential) xml schema users, but since we only wanted to create a new *syntax*, i think it's not appropriate to criticize the syntax for the complexity. any syntax that does not hide certain facets of xml schema has to expose xml schema's complexity. this is also true for graphical interfaces (also a kind of "syntax"), which often show an overview accompanied by numerous pop-ups, windows, or other means of presenting xml schema's complexity.
