Not sure if I am missing the point, but is the XBRL standard not and important of XML in the Financial services sector? XBRL is an XML standard for financial reporting on the company level. See http://www.xbrl.org/

  XBRL is a good standard. However accounting is common across all industries and not specific to the financial services sector.
